September 6, 2019

What a great week! We have been so busy settling into routines and getting to know one another.

Today we drew our first draft of self portraits for the year, we will be learning new skills and revising our self portraits so that we can track our growth over the year. We also had our first reading buddies meet up with our grade 6 buddies. We had our first assembly today, we will be practicing  our assembly manners next week to ensure we are ready for the next assembly . Ask me about my assembly manners today. We journaled about our favourite part of the week.

Going home: walking field trip form/notice. (If this is not in a blue folder please return folder/ paper work if not done so already).

What to expect next week:
1. Students will begin being assessed for current reading levels so that we can begin our home reading program.
2. We will be looking at patterns, sorting rules and continuing developing our number sense of numbers 0-100.
3. We will be working on writing a sentence. Identifying what makes a sentence as well as the difference between a question and a sentence. We will also learn a variety of ways to start a sentence.
4. We will be beginning our exploring liquids unit in science.
5. We will be looking at mapping skills and mapping out Canada.
6. We will be continuing our work on learning about the  pillars of care.
7. We will be making all about me posters to share with the class, these will be sent home to add pictures/ other details and each child will have a chance to share beginning the following week. I will post an example next week.
8. We will be recieving our first word list to practice for a spelling test at the end of the week. Please have your child  practice reading and writing the words on the list once sent home.

I look forward to next week and hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
