Friday February 28

Hello Room 4,

What a busy week we have had. Unfortunately we did not get to our spelling test this week due to unforeseen circumstances. We will return to this next week.

Today we had the opportunity to make our own ice cream to explore how freezing effects liquids as well as to revisit our exploring liquids unit from earlier this year.

This week we have been learning to solve addition word problems, writing 'in my heart' books and learning about Inuit traditions.

Check out some picture of our ice cream adventure:

Reminders:
- No school Monday

In math we have been practicing addition, working up to our addition wrap up.

Spelling test will be tomorrow and new words will be sent home (next week is short).

We have started arctic animal research projects with partners.

In science we have been exploring reversible and irreversible temperature changes as well as sorting adjectives for hot and cold temperatures.

February 19, 2020 AKA 100's day!!

Hello Room 4,

We have officially passed our 100th day of school this year! Yesterday we spent the day dressed as old people & doing exciting 100's day work.

We started our day by writing about what we would do if we were 100 & what we would do with $100.

In math we did some work with identifying patterns in the hundred chart. We also played a quick game of race to 100!

We had a special visit from grade 5 students who put on a presentation about proper hand washing techniques and we also visited our school library.

In science we had a hands on learning experience, exploring how temperature can effect food. We heated popcorn kernels to make popcorn using the microwave in our staff room and froze juice in cups to make popsicles. We got to enjoy these delicious treats during our class 100's day party after recording our observations.

We had our spelling test and got new spelling words at the end of the day. These spelling words come with a great sheet for practicing. The words for the week are:

  1. They
  2. Eight
  3. Break
  4. Hay
  5. Cake
  6. Rain
  7. Baby
  8. Stain

February 5, 2019

Hello Room 4,

I apologize for the delay in blog posts this week, unfortunately I was quite ill the last 2 days, but after taking the day to recover yesterday I am feeling much better!

We have been very busy this week preparing for the arrival of our new class pet... Sea monkeys! We will be hatching our eggs tomorrow and are excited to see our new friends. Today we predicted what the sea monkeys will look like and did a procedural writing task about how to care for a sea monkey. I must say this writing/drawing was very cute! Check it out:

We have also been working on reviewing our skip counting and double digit addition in preparation for the big Miss.Cox store next Wednesday! We are excited to use our skills to shop for some great prizes using our Miss.Cox cash!

In Social Studies and Science we have been discussing human adaptations to climate. We are exploring the Inuit as well as how we adapt to the changing Calgary temperatures ourselves.

Come check out our new beautiful documentation of learning board tomorrow at math night to find out how we have been using spaced practice in our math learning.

Reminders:
  1. Spelling test will be tomorrow as next week is a 3 day week and we will have the spelling test for the upcoming spelling list the week of February 18th.
  2. Time capsules will be going home Friday... unfortunately there was an error in printing these so I have had to re-stuff them for each student.
  3. MATH NIGHT tomorrow 6-8pm please come check out the living board game in our room and try to crack the mystery math night code to win PRIZES!!!
  4. No school Feb.13 and 14 or 17th
