Week at a Glance Feb.18-21

Hello Room 4,

I hope that you enjoyed your long weekend! Here is a quick glance at what you can expect to see in our classroom this week.

ELA

  • Reading
    • We are exploring the reading strategy Skippy Frog this week- this is a strategy where you skip ahead in your reading. We will explore this strategy in our group reading of fairytales.
  • Writing
    • We will be writing about what we will be doing when we are 100 on Wednesday for 100's day. Today we did journaling and sharing about our long weekends. At the end of the week, we will move into fairytale reading. 
  • Spelling
    • We will have our spelling test tomorrow to give people who have forgotten a chance to study, new spelling lists will go home tomorrow afternoon.
Math
  • We will spend the week practicing basic facts for addition and subtraction as well as double checking our double digit addition skills before moving into double digit subtraction next week.
Social Studies
  • We will be exploring Inuit culture and traditions this week, focusing on the language and games. 
Science
  • This week we will cook popcorn in the microwave to explore how heat effects food. We will also freeze juice to make popsicles, to explore how cold effects food. 
Health
  • We will have a hand washing  presentation tomorrow. We will also be exploring and identifying feelings using the book 'In my heart' this week.
Art
  • We will be making soap stone carvings using bars of soap. 

Reminders:
  • Pink shirt day February 26
  • Miss Cox would like to bring a healthy snack for our 100's day party (popcorn, apples and juice) please let me know if you would like your child to not have this snack. 
  • PLEASE return signed time capsules (if you did not receive one this is because I did not get your time capsule back last time, please return this so I can add to yours).
